THE DONALD R. THARPE GALLERY
, located in the mansion's English basement, houses an exhibit dedicated to interpreting the 1862 Peninsula Campaign. This comprehensive exhibit tells the story of the events that took place on the Peninsula in 1861 and 1862, including the June 10, 1861 Battle of Big Bethel.

Some of the artifacts on display include an Adams Revolver given to Major General John B. Magruder, a Moore's Patent Revolver which belonged to Colonel Abram Duryee of the 5th New York Zouaves, and a tablecloth from the USS Monitor. Many other items are on display, ranging from artifacts found at the Dam No. 1 site to a fragment of the Union reconnaissance balloon Intrepid.
