Washington at Endview George Washington and his troops at nearby Endview Plantation, 1781 Washington at Endview - On September 28, 1781, General George Washington's troops stopped briefly at the Endview Plantation of the Harwood Family. The Continental soldiers were then en route from Williamsburg to begin the siege of Yorktown. According to family tradition, a faithful house servant named Aunt Vinus came to her mistress in alarm to report that the soldiers were drinking all the water from the spring near the house. However, Mrs. Harwood reassured her that all was well, and that the spring would soon replenish itself. Endview was constructed c.1720. The home's name derived from the original location of the highway which formerly ran along the side of the house. Endview was temporarily used as a hospital during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign. © 2001-2005 The Virginia War Museum. All rights reserved.
